Whether I’m using paint, pencil, or camera, I love to glide on the edge of abstraction. And for me, that means pushing my personal envelope in both technique and content. I like paintings that say something, but ambiguously, and with a wink. When figure drawing from the live model, I strive for expressive line and accurate proportion to capture the uniqueness of this individual in a moment of time. In the strange photographs, what you see is what my camera captures. No post-processing. I use my ancient Droid cell phone from 2011, locked into the solarize setting, to create mysterious alternate realities. Pixeloozie is the name of the phoneographer who documents this world. Everyone should have a secret identity. I teach art at Coconino Community College, and was nominated by students and selected 2015-16 Faculty of the Year.
