I love the smell, the feel, the way it can be brushed on and wiped off. I love how it creates an image, right before my eyes as if it came that way, right out of the tube.
As a painter I am committed to speaking through the expression of the human form. This is what I stretch a canvas for. I adhere to a direct painting approach, staying true to the shapes within the drawing to create an accurate rendering of the subject without creating a photo realistic quality. Perfection is an unobtainable goal, so I celebrate the marks and texture that mar the surface in a most delicious way. I choose what detail to add or edit to complete my expression as I see it. It is inviting for me to bring out the subjects’ foibles by using composition, color and placement so the layperson can enjoy the experience without ever knowing the subject.
My journey is finding the absolute, to guide the observer to look closer at the subject and garner what they need to fulfill their experience.
